Capítulo 11: Antes de Teo / Before Teo

Noa tem sim história pra contar. Sua mãe fugira com um soldado quando Noa tinha apenas quatro anos. Diz a lenda que foram devorados (a mãe e o soldado) por uma tigresa enfurecida, na Malásia; isso era o que a tia lhe contara. Com o passar do tempo o pai de Noa, Nehemia Dubnow, foi ficando cada vez mais gordo. Deve ter envelhecido antes do tempo, por causa do desgosto.
Quando seu pai faleceu deixou a casa de herança para um primo e Noa ficou chupando os dedos. Foi aí que resolveu se "libertar", ou melhor, ir para a universidade. Aos trinta e dois anos, ela deixou sua casa e foi estudar literatura na Universidade de Tel Aviv, "cercada de estudantes dez anos mais jovens". Noa começou a dar aulas em uma escola secundária, viveu com alguns homens mais velhos, e finalmente resolveu "sair do país por dois ou três anos, e descobrir se algum outro tipo de vida era possível". Foi para Venezuela, e descobriu um novo mundo. Foi em Caracas, durante um concerto, que os dois se encontraram. "Desde então estamos amarrados um ao outro", pensou Teo.


Noa does have story to tell. Her mother fled with a soldier when Noa was only four. Humor has it that they were eaten (the mother and the soldier) by a raging tiger in Malaysia- that was what her aunt used to tell her. As time went by, Noa´s father, Nehemia Dubnow, got fatter and fatter, he must have aged prematurely. When he died Noa found out he had left the house inheritance to a cousin - a man. Then she decided to be free, in other words, go to university (bold woman). At the age of thirty-two years she left home and went to study literature at the University of Tel Aviv, "surrounded by estudents ten years younger." Noa began teaching at a secondary school, she lived with some older men, and finally decided to "leave the country for two or three years, and find out if another type of life was possible." She went to Venezuela, and discovered a new world. It was in Caracas, during a concert, that the two of them met. "Since then we are tied together," thought Teo.
